You don't need a degree in art to enjoy yourself at WhistleTree Pottery Company. You only
need a little time from your busy schedule, and the desire to relax, enjoy and be creative. Browse our books for inspiration,
visit the idea center, get some good ideas from finished pieces on display, or bring your own designs. The possibilities
are endless!
1.
Draw, if you want to, with a waterbased
marker. Marker will burn off in the kiln when the piece is fired. Remember that you will not see any of the marker
lines. Do not use an eraser or wipe with a wet cloth. If you must remove marker lines, use sandpaper.
2. Use any nonporous surface (such as a tile, a glass
or ceramic plate, a plastic container) as a palette. We have plastic paint palettes.
3. Use water only for cleaning your brushes. If you
want intense color, do not add water to your brush. Dry your brushes with a paper towel before using.
4. Apply three coats of paint to get a solid and intense
color. Each coat should be dry before the next coat is added. Air drying is best. Drying time varies with the pottery piece
and humidity levels.
5. Dark colors will cover light colors better than
light colors will cover dark.
